Hiring Process

In order to participate in Work Study the student and employer must read the Student Work Study tutorial or Supervisor Work Study tutorial and successfully pass a quiz prior to employment.

Hiring Instructions for America Reads and America Counts Tutorial Placement

Step 1: Contact the work-Study Team (SET) to determine eligibility to participate in the program. The SET will provide the student with a Work-Authorization and Terms of Employment.

Step 2: Contact district/agency to arrange an interview.

Step 3: Take " Work Authorization and Terms of Employment" and Financial Aid award to the interview to validate eligibility to participate in the Federal Work-Study program. Both student and supervisor must complete and sign the Work Authorization and Terms of Employment.

Step 4: Take the following items with you to the Student Employment window at UH-150. The hiring process cannot be completed without all of these items.

  • Work Authorization and Terms of Employment
  • Work-Study tutorial acknowledgement form
  • Un-laminated social security card
  • State driver's license, ID or Coyote One Card
  • Confidentiality Access and Compliance Form

Step 5: Complete the appropriate tax forms (SPAR or EAR) and I-9 at the student employment window

After all the above steps have been completed and the Work-Study Team has verified the student's eligibility to participate in the program, student workers may begin working.

Hiring Instructions for On and Off Campus Placement

Step 1: Contact the SET to determine eligibility to participate in the Work-Study Program. The Student Employment Team will provide the student with a Work Authorization and Terms of Employment.

Step 2: View Job Listing at Job Listings

Step 3: Contact prospective employer to arrange an interview.

Step 4:Take "Work Authorization and Terms of Employment" and Financial Aid award to the interview to validate eligibility to participate in the Federal Work-Study program. Both student and supervisor must complete and sign the Work Authorization and Terms of Employment. It is required for all student worker positions.

Step 5: Take the following items to the Student Employment window at UH-150. The hiring process cannot be completed without all of these items.
